Gang Beasts is a multiplayer fighting game where players control characters with physics-based movements. The action takes place in Beef City, a fictional location containing industrial facilities, rooftops, streets, and other arenas. The main objective is to eliminate opponents by knocking them unconscious, grabbing them, and throwing them into environmental hazards or outside the arena. The game focuses on short matches rather than a traditional storyline with missions and character development.
Characters and Fighting Mechanics
Players can customize their characters by choosing costumes, colors, and accessories. Combat involves punching, kicking, grabbing, lifting, and throwing opponents. Characters move according to a physics system, making their actions dependent on momentum and collisions. Players can grab opponents with both hands, lift them above their heads, and attempt to throw them from platforms. Unconscious characters can recover if they are not eliminated.
Game Modes and Objectives
Gang Beasts includes several modes with different rules and objectives. Players can fight individually, cooperate with teammates, or compete against computer-controlled opponents. The available modes include:
· Melee – free-for-all battles where players fight to remain the last survivor.
· Gangs – team-based matches where groups compete against each other.
· Waves – cooperative battles against successive groups of computer-controlled enemies.
· Soccer – a mode where teams compete to score goals while using the game’s movement and fighting mechanics.
Each mode requires players to understand character movement and use the surrounding environment. There is no conventional story campaign or character progression system. Instead, matches take place across different arenas, with rounds ending when the victory conditions are satisfied.
Arenas and Environmental Hazards
The game features locations such as moving trucks, building rooftops, elevators, subway platforms, and industrial facilities. Each arena introduces hazards that affect combat. Players can fall from elevated platforms, get caught in machinery, or be knocked into dangerous areas. Some environments contain moving objects that change the available fighting space during a match. Success depends on maintaining balance, controlling grabs, and choosing suitable moments to attack. Players can also use environmental objects and obstacles to interfere with their opponents.
