Openfront is a real-time strategy game focused on territorial conquest, military expansion, and resource management. Players control a country represented by colored territory on a geographical map. The objective is to capture land, strengthen defenses, and defeat competing nations. Matches involve human opponents, computer-controlled nations, and smaller neutral tribes. There is no traditional storyline or campaign with scripted missions. Instead, each match develops according to player decisions, alliances, and military conflicts.

Maps and Territorial Expansion

Players begin by selecting a map and placing their starting territory. Available locations include world maps and regional maps based on real geography. To expand, players click neighboring territories and send troops to capture them. The attack ratio determines how many soldiers participate in each assault. Expanding too quickly can leave borders undefended, making troop management an important part of the strategy.

Economy and Military Mechanics

Openfront uses troops and gold as its main resources. Troops are required for attacking and defending, while gold allows players to construct buildings and military equipment. Resources accumulate during gameplay, and different structures provide economic or defensive advantages.

The main gameplay features include:

·         Capturing neutral and enemy-controlled territories.

·         Constructing cities, factories, and defensive buildings.

·         Building ports and deploying naval units.

·         Forming alliances and exchanging resources.

·         Launching nuclear weapons against enemy positions.

·         Managing troop reserves and defending borders.

Players can use transport ships to attack territories separated by water. Warships protect naval routes and intercept enemy vessels. Missile silos allow nuclear attacks that destroy troops, buildings, and controlled territory. Diplomatic agreements help players cooperate, although alliances can be broken. Every military action requires balancing territorial expansion against available resources.

Game Modes and Victory Conditions

Openfront includes Free for All and team-based matches, along with ranked competitive modes. Players can compete against other people or practice against computer-controlled nations. Maps contain different geographical obstacles, including mountains and water, which influence expansion strategies. There are no conventional numbered levels within individual matches, although the game includes player levels and experience progression. Victory generally requires controlling 80% of the available land, while losing all territory results in elimination.
