I Am Fish is a physics-based adventure game where players control four fish attempting to escape captivity and reach the ocean. The story begins with a group of fish living together in a pet shop aquarium. After being separated and sold to different locations across Barnardshire, each fish must find its own way to freedom. Players navigate environments filled with obstacles, solve movement-based puzzles, and use different abilities to survive outside their natural habitat.

Story and Playable Characters

The game features four playable characters with different abilities. The Goldfish specializes in swimming and moving through water-filled containers. The Pufferfish can inflate its body and roll across land. The Flying Fish can glide through the air, allowing it to cross gaps between water sources. The Piranha uses its teeth to bite objects and overcome obstacles. Each character follows a separate journey, with the shared objective of reuniting in the ocean.

Gameplay Mechanics and Challenges

I Am Fish focuses on movement, environmental interaction, and physics-based puzzles. Players must control their fish carefully while navigating roads, rooftops, pipes, and other dangerous locations. Water is essential for survival, and spending too much time outside it can cause the fish to die.

The main gameplay features include:

Movement requires controlling momentum and balance, especially when transporting a fish inside a fragile container. Players may use jars, buckets, and other objects to move between water sources. Breaking a container, falling from a height, or running out of air can result in failure. The game then returns the player to the latest checkpoint.

Levels and Progression

I Am Fish contains 13 main levels and one bonus level. Players initially complete the Goldfish stages before unlocking the other characters’ adventures. Levels introduce locations such as forests, sewers, highways, and urban buildings. Each environment contains obstacles requiring different movement techniques. Players can explore alternative routes, collect breadcrumbs, and improve their performance ratings. The main storyline concludes with the fish attempting to reach the ocean and reunite after their separate journeys.
